The team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog games would like to try remastering the Sonic Advance series. The trio of games was released from 2000-2004 and is considered a fan-favorite of the many 2D Sonic the Hedgehog titles out there. Now that it has been over 20 years since the release of the Sonic Advance series, gamers are hoping it may show up again at some point, either as a remastered collection of games or potentially in a new iteration for modern systems.
Sonic Team is currently dedicated to the development of Sonic X Shadow Generations, scheduled to be released in October. Given that a portion of this game involves remastering Sonic Generations from 2011, fans of the franchise are hopeful that Sega and Sonic Team will further prioritize other titles from the extensive Sonic series catalog. While team members appear enthusiastic about the idea, it appears to be a complicated matter.
During an interview with VGC, Takashi Iizuka, the head of the Sonic franchise, expressed Team Sonic’s interest in remastering the Sonic Advance trilogy. While company members may show interest, Team Sonic has not had the chance to work on such a project. Iizuka’s response expressed optimism for the Advance series. However, he stated that there are currently no plans for any Sonic Advance projects, indicating uncertainty about the future.

Iizuka observed that Katsuyuki Shigihara, a game designer on the Mario & Sonic series, assumed the role of director for Sonic Origins. This collection includes Sonic 1-3 and Sonic CD, setting a precedent for remastered compilations within the franchise. Iizuka is considering a re-release for the Sonic Advance series, with flexibility on the preferred format. Iizuka expressed readiness to adapt to any unforeseen situations. Sega may consider having Sonic Team develop a remastered Sonic Advance trilogy if there is sufficient demand, although various considerations could impact the decision-making process.
Takashi Iizuka exhibited a similar stance towards speculations surrounding another Chao Garden mini-game and the much-anticipated Sonic Adventure 3 release. While there are currently no planned projects for either genre of game, the team remains open and willing to work on such projects. Iizuka noted that he considers working on a Chao Garden Game to be equivalent to working on a Sonic Adventure title. He mentioned that it is integrated into the overall Adventure series gameplay, so separating it and creating a standalone game is not feasible. While Team Sonic is motivated to pursue this type of project, it could be a while before fans witness the release of another Sonic Advance or Sonic Adventure game.
